I chose the topic of Hoard Bits and collect obsessively. The idea being that we could talk about hoarding and collecting within the classroom and look at artists who deal with the idea of hoarding.
For example, (thanks to Kathy) students could explore the work of Chris Jordan who, according to Foam.org, "explores the frightening waste of our mass culture."
Students could VTS Chris Jordan's Running the Numbers II: Portraits of global mass culture. Followed by essential questions such as:
- What is left out of this image?
- How would this image change if a different medium were used?
- Is this art?
- What makes this art?
Students then will be asked to think about issues they care about and contemplate how could they themselves raise awareness to this problem.
Requirements:
- choose an untraditional material to create you piece
- choose a material to collect that directly relates to idea
OR
Students choose an issue within their school community to address through a collaboration instillation using the process of multiples and untraditional art material.
